Feminist, graphic, dark and challenging. Boy Parts is designed to make you uncomfortable and to examine your discomfort. It's effective and I enjoyed that a lot but the plot was lacking a little and the ending was like a song fading out.
Akin to American Psycho, this novel had a fascinating premise but I felt it lacked the conviction to go all out.
This was an intense read. The main character was so, so unlikeable!
Ending dragged too much without feeling you were really being drawn into the narrators mind (I think the intended effect)

Probably most unlikeable narrator I have read so far. Came away from it not knowing what as real or what to think, but felt entertained throughout. I think there is a tendency in popular literature atm to fetishise problematic female characters to fit this ‘female rage’ or ‘good for her’ narrative which is starting to wear thin for me. I don’t believe the thoughts and actions of Irina were normalised or commended however at times it did feel like being stuck in the head of a mean girl from school which did make me feel a bit stuck. Overall I did enjoy though, I didn’t expect her to be redeemed but I would have liked more of a downfall as compensation for enduring her horrific stream of consciousness.
