Witchy rom coms become my personality in the fall. This was cute, quick and had that dash of magic I needed. Delia was such a ray of sunshine - I love her quirky personality and how badly she wanted to succeed in her career. Max was a perfect MMC with his broody personality. I adored Nikki - he was such a great secondary character. I definitely would return to Texas with these characters!

This book was so fun! Imagine the vibes of Practical Magic but if the Owens had been hexed and had no magic. There’s even midnight margaritas! Thematically, I really loved the aspect of finding family and love throughout the story. I even got a little weepy at the end!
The audiobook narrators did a good job; their accents were fun. The only thing I didn't love about the female narrator was her regular narration (not dialogue). It was too bright and nasally and was always jarring to hear after listening to a chapter with the male narrator.
Thank you NetGalley and Forever for this ALC.

Hot Hex Boyfriend is the perfect answer for romance readers looking for a strong witchy Halloween vibe that's both quirky and cozy. Delia is trying to live a normal life within her not-so-normal family, a collection of women convinced that they are in fact witches who happen to be powerless from a curse long ago. Delia is rumored to be the one who will break the curse by kissing her true love, but Delia is down-to-earth and thinks of it as nothing more than a charming family quirk. That is, until she kisses Max Halifax on the night of her 30th birthday and accidentally breaks the curse.
One of the most wholesome parts of this novel is that Carly Bloom puts family at the forefront, which helped boost the cozy vibe throughout. There's fierce closeness and connection within the Merriweather family, and this extends to found family as the Merriweathers accept Max into their world. This is a grumpy-meets-sunshine story that felt emotionally mature to me — a refreshing characteristic in a genre that can sometimes lean towards miscommunication and immaturity. There's some spice described on page, and while it isn't particularly graphic, it may be more than you'd want your young teen to read, so parents beware.
The audiobook narrators did an excellent job, each with multiple voices and a wide emotional range. I enjoyed feeling the shift they provided in alternating POV chapters.
Thank you to NetGalley, Hachette Audio, and Carly Bloom for an advance copy of the book for review. I recommend it!

When I first read the blurb for this book I thought it was going to be mainly romance focussed with a sprinkling of magic and I was actually very pleasantly surprised to see how well developed the magic system was in this book. The setting and characters are so real and true - I could feel the love of the Merriweathers pouring off the page and I would love to be a member of that family. This was a lovely, cosy read and I’ll definitely look out for more by this author.
3.5 stars
This was fine but too long. I loved the little detail of the cafe that serves Southern funeral food (such as deviled eggs, chicken casserole, and Texas sheet cake).
Maybe I'm just getting tired of the witchy rom-com sub-genre? And maybe most of them are adequate, but not wonderful.
