Thanks to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for giving me this book to review.

Nightblood is the good final book in the Frostblood saga. It has good pacing and I felt it had more world building than the previous books especially as the gods and goddesses feature even more in this book. However, I felt there should be have been a little less romance drama and more story drama.

I was not a fan of Ruby in this book, I know she was not in complete control of her actions but she never helped herself and seemed to be enjoying causing the drama rather than talking to people and trying to mitigate it. Arcus is still serious and feels responsible for everyone but he did come across as very possessive and I can see why people are not a fan of him. I had the opposite problem with Kai, he was too cocky and blasé when they were trying to save the world and too interested in Ruby romantically when everyone should really be focusing on the main issues.

While I did have problems with all of the drama in this book, I still enjoyed it and I am looking forward to reading what Blake writes next. I would recommend Nightblood to fans of the first two books in the Frostblood Saga.

If they wouldn’t talk so much and if it did keep my attention I would’ve given it 5 stars

I truly love this series! I fell in love with it in the first chapter of FrostBlood! Although the end was fitting and a good one. The story itself fell a tab short for me, I think the first book was my favorite! And would absolutely recommend this series to everyone who loves a good fantasy!!!

*4.25*

I so badly wanted to give this a full five stars (or at least 4.5 stars), but there were just a few little things that annoyed me throughout or were left unresolved that stopped it being so in my mind.

Saying that, I absolutely adored this series and I'm so thankful that, when I picked this up in a bargain bookstore, I actually read it relatively quickly as opposed to it sitting on my shelf for years. I'll look back on this series with fond memories and contentment, having thoroughly enjoyed the journey of Ruby, Arcus, and their companions.

I think that was the best book so far in the series. 3.5

1. I like how complex Ruby is as a character. There is the constant push and pull of the darkness within her; the theme of believing in the light of one's soul, of one's strength and belief - I really felt that with her. I think Ruby went through a great ordeal in this book, and it hurt my heart because no one seeemd to notice, to understand. She was so scared, rightly so, and she was a character, I really hoped would get a good ending. I couldn't relate, but I felt for her.

2. The love triangle genuinely, genuinely couldn't come at a worse time. Like, Ruby is in pain, not just physically but especially mentally and emotionally. She is in torment, and all Arcus and Kai can do is fight like children. Please; this is so insanely stupid. All the problems in the world are manifesting, and what Arcus is focusing on is why Ruby kissed Kai and how it looked like he had enjoyed it a lot?

COME ON. I can't even begin to feel how sick Ruby must have been of the quarrel. That being said, sigh, I really like Kai and I wish there was a follow up story where we can read him getting a happy end. He's so full of emotions, of fire, of passion. I wish there could have been someone else who would be as great a match as Ruby.

3. I loved the lore here; it was sooo good. The worldbuilding was nicely done, and it was very good in giving us snippets and not too much so we don't get too bored while reading. The writing style, especially regarding action scenes, has improved as well, so it didn't feel chunky or weird to read it anymore, not like in book one.

This was a good ending to the series overall. I didn't love how everything worked out perfectly in the end. I'm a big fan of surprises and the sacrifice in times of need. I just think it sends the wrong message to teenagers/young adults that everything works out, because *spoiler alert* it doesn't. Some of my favorite books are those that don't end in a perfectly wrapped up package. That being said, that is literally my only gripe about the book. The rest of it was fantastic, the world-building and character development were off the charts. 4 out of 5 stars.
