My sole purpose in reading (listening) to this book was to see if there was any reason or explanation given to the spit scene in the film. If you're considering reading for that reason, I'll save you the time - there's none given. It's still a mystery. Maybe someone can share their theory in the comments...

Anyway, it was an interesting story and I don't regret the time I spent listening to the book. If you're interested in learning about being a closeted lesbian living in the orthodox Jewish community, it's definitely worthwhile.

Quite good. I appreciated the Q & A at the end as well. I learned a lot about Orthodox Jews in Britain. Somehow the author both points out the flaws of the religion, but allows the people who follow its tenants to be humans you’d want to know and love.

I don't think I have ever been touched on a personal level by a book. This was genuinely beautiful and inspiring, and the fact that this is the Naomi Alderman's debut book amazes me.

I admit that I was on the verge of losing interest halfway trough the book because nothing was really happening. But there is something that me kept intrigued. Maybe because the writer provided the readers with a chance to see what it's like to live in an orthodox jewish community. It was quite the fascinating experience to learn about all these details about an orthodox jewish lifestyle. At some point, I was a bit taken aback by the oddity of some information that I had to look them up to see of they are really true.

Another highlight of Disobedience are the last two chapters. I mean, wow! There are certain paragraphs I had to read twice because the author perfectly put together the right words to transcribe some thoughts I already had in my mind but I never figured out the right choice of words to say them.

It’s an overall average book with a horrible ending. An out lesbian stays with her husband and has his child but... at least she’s out of the closet? An unsatisfying ending that dropped it down a star.
