I loved loved loved this book. It was so rich and historical, and the culture was spot on, at least, from what I understand from my studies. The plot had a way of catching you and keeping you until the very last word.

EXTREMELY MILD SPOILERS WITHIN (because I can't give a review on this book without talking in the loosest terms about the ending)
I'm honestly not sure how to describe this book. On one hand, it's incredible - the story is fantastic, the writing beautiful and haunting, the characterization to a T. On the other hand, the ending...reminded me almost of a book by[a:Jodi Picoult|7128|Jodi Picoult|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1339242079p2/7128.jpg], where it makes you reevaluate the entire story. Unlike a Jodi Picoult novel, where the story is different than you thought it was, this ending changed my opinion of the entire book and was too big of a shake-up for me to fully comprehend.

This is the story of the last days of the Romanovs told from the perspective of the kitchen boy, Leonka. I really enjoyed this book and the twist at the end made it even better. I highly recommend it.
Clearly well-researched and a work of passion; the pages fly away as one gets more and more into the story.
Read it for the fucking twist at the end, though!

A very interesting twist to the whole Anastasia story. We're all fascinated by the idea of someone surviving such a terrible act of violence. Might be a little slow to get into, but it's very interesting.
Historical fiction about the Russian Romanov family, told by a witness to their massacre - a young kitchen boy named Leonka. A little slow at times, but near the end when the action picks up, I read right on through to the end. Big twist at the end that seemed almost thrown in as a way to end the book. Made me want to know a little more about this tragic family. Easy read.
I don’t know how to even feel. The twists and turns kept me hooked from the very start and I loved all the information that was woven into the story. The plot twist at the end was so unbelievably unexpected that I was and still am shocked. An incredibly written and fascinating story. One of the best Romanov books I’ve read so far.
I love everything about the story of Anastasia and the Romonovs.
theme - read a book that takes place somewhere you've always wanted to visit.

I really enjoyed this one. Nice twist at the end. My only beef is that it was too short! :)
