A Monster calls, reaches right out of the page and jerks your tears right out. This kid is right out of a country song. Daddy leaves to start a new family. Momma has cancer. He's a punching bag for the school bully. I'm just glad he didn't have a dog because I don't think it would have made it and I could not have handled that.

And yet...and yet this kid is amazingly strong. He's hurting, but he's going to put on a brave face. Of course, by the end, he learns that it's enough to have his own face.

At 12:07, I was sobbing.

Oh, and the illustrations are exquisite. I can't imagine this book any other way than the way it was illustrated.

Read this book because it was recommended to me and I'm so happy I did! This book made me think of the movie About a Boy, the way the mom and son love each other so deeply. 🥹 Beautifully written! I would highly recommend for anyone going through grief, sadness,  even a tough time at school. This book could be for plenty of ages. Absolutely loved it!!

Beautiful and heartbreaking.

I started this book this morning and finished this evening. A beautifully tragic tale written so perfectly I couldn't put it down.

2.5 stars. I dont really know how I feel about this book. I think I might have had too high of expectations for this book. I started to get tears in my eyes near the end, but barely, and they didn't fall at all. This book does convey a good message in it and the illustrations were great but it just didn't speak to me personally.
