Despite guessing the ending early into the book, I still sobbed the entire second half.

This one just about ripped my heart out. Conor is a 13-year-old boy who is dealing with finding out his mother has a terminal illness. A monster in the form of a yew tree keeps showing up every night at 12:07 a.m. to tell Conor tales. Those tales, the presence of the monster, the fact that the monster appears a yew tree, his mother’s illness, treatments, and effects and the profound impact it has on Conor all come together magically, if not devastatingly, in this book. This book and its characters will probably be with me forever. Five stars!! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

If I had read this in middle school, I would have resolved my daddy issues much more quickly.

This book is unflinching in its honesty, urging the reader to not only think about their darkest, ugliest truths, but also to speak them aloud. Because we can only heal when we’re honest with ourselves and with others.

I also loved how this novel shows readers that it’s okay to feel angry, that no one person is either all good or all bad, and that your actions define you more than your thoughts.

Good story, but not what I was expecting....

Superb!! This book is not what I expected, but absolutely what I wanted. I cried by eyes out and will think about this book forever. It is beautifully written and so deep. Definitely one of the best books I read this year and will be a favorite. Well done!

Short beautiful story...

As someone who is dealing with losing a parent to a terminal illness, I found this book to be so moving and so well written. This book, I found to be so relatable but also helped me prepare myself for my own loss. I loved this book. It’s a real tear jerker but also makes you value what you have in life as well as understand that the world is not always so black and white.

This book made me feel. I recently read a book that wasn’t bad- just a bit contrived. It was about a subject that should have made me really feel for the main character. But it didn’t.
This book was the exact opposite. I ached for the main character the whole way through. I loved the idea and the rawness of the story. It hit me hard. Truth.
