Idk, I guess this book wasn’t for me? I like a book that makes me cry, and this seemed to check that box from others reviews, but I just didn’t connect with any character enough to feel anything. The story behind the fairytale was kinda bland. It’s not a badly written book and I definitely understand the praise it gets, it was just overhyped for me.

I almost feel like I'm not allowed to give this less than 5 stars which is also pretty ironic... so knowing that Conor doesn't want my extra pity star, 4 stars it is. This makes you cry just as much as everyone says it does. I don't know why I doubted. I am fortunate enough to have never lost anyone close to me, but I imagine this to be a pretty accurate portrayal of a young boy losing his mother. It was tragic and painful, but also beautiful. There were times I thought it might be a good book for someone going through similar grief to read, but there were other times I felt like maybe this would only make it worse... I'm not sure what the answer is on that. Just proceed with caution I'd say. I think it's definitely worth the read though.
