The end of the synopsis for this book says this is a 'story of a family you'll quickly fall in love with, and won't soon forget'. That is so, so true. I fell in love with this story from the start and with each of the characters as soon as I met them. And I'm still thinking about them.

The Second Home delves into the lives of Ann, Poppy, and Michael. The dual timeline of the past and the present help us discover why these three siblings are estranged and what drove them apart. Can the past be reconciled? Or will the family lose their summer home, a home which meant so much to all of them?

This is a very well written book with the words just flowing off of the pages and into my imagination. This debut novel by Christina Clancy is an impressive work of fiction and she is an author I'll be reading again. I can't wait to see what she produces next. The Second Home is a title you definitely need to add to your summer reading list.

DNF I didn’t know this was an adult book

this was my favorite book of the year. i started and finished it in one day because i couldn’t put it down!! it made me laugh and cry i’ve been recommending it to all of my friends!!

I received an advanced reader copy of The Second Home from St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley, in return for my honest opinion.

The Second Home by Christina Clancy is a story about the unconditional love that comes from family. When Ann Gordon was in high school, she convinced her parents to adopt classmate Michael Davis. Ann’s parents and sister, Poppy, grew to love Michael. A terrible event happened while the family vacationed, at their summer home in Cape Cod, the summer that Ann was seventeen, which eventually led to the implosion of the Gordon family.

Now Ann and Poppy’s parents have passed away and all three siblings are estranged. Ann, Poppy, and Michael all have their own ideas about what should be done with the Cape Cod home. Can these three siblings learn to trust each other again, once Ann reveals the secret that tore this family apart years ago?

This was an excellent book filled with interesting characters, told from alternating points of view. The Second Home is available today, Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

Three siblings enjoyed a few summers on the Cape at a family home until one summer when a few events splintered the family and they were all forever changed. The parents of this family have passed and the three siblings must now reconcile to make big decisions about the original family home and The Second Home.

I may say this often on this blog, but it is the truth, I love it when authors put multiple points of view in one book and I love it even more when it is clearly edited, so the reader knows who is taking the lead in each chapter to tell their side of things! Ann, Poppy and Michael each get moments to tell the story and I loved seeing the events unfold through each of their eyes. Without spoiling too much, this book definitely has some hard scenes to read, but I think the author did such a great job taking these characters through some stuff and out the other side!

I remember seeing this book float around Instagram a few months back and I knew I had to request it on netgalley. A story about a beach house and sibling relationships? Sounds perfect! I read this over the weekend and it was just so good. I enjoyed the different points of view and timelines. I enjoyed reading about the sibling dynamic and how that changed over the years. The overall message that family is all you have in the end resonates strongly with me. I am so happy I requested this and got it! I can’t wait to pick up a copy in June.

This is a solid book about how misunderstandings and lack of communication can effect a family for many years.
