I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book or not but I ended up really enjoying it! The plot was really smooth and I enjoyed every step of the story. I felt there was a lot of emotion in the characters. When it came time for the daughters perspective I thought it was going to be rushed but overall it was done well.. I just felt more connected in a way with the mother because she is introduced first. In the end the story does tie off loose ends really well so there isn't any complaining there.

I really enjoyed this book.

We follow two timelines. The first follows Ayesha who move from India to the US to attend High School. She falls in love with a boy (Suresh), she gets pregnant and one thing leads to another. Suresh returns to India and she decides to have the baby with the help of Mel and Sam who decide to adopt Ayesha's baby (Mira). Ayesha returns to India but tells no one that she had a child.

The second timeline follows Mira as she navigates society growing up with her two white mums. They are both such great people. Anyways Mira finds a box that Ayesha left her, in it she found a letter that asks her to come to India when she is 18 years old. Mira decides to go find Ayesha in India.

I am trying so hard not to spoil this book. Please do check it out, I really loved it.

Thanks to Scholastic for making a copy of this book available to me!

I really like Sabina Khan's writing style, and I really like her characterisation. I also loved that the queer characters in this book were just there, without facing problems due to their queerness. I always feel captured when I read one of Khan's stories, and I finish a book just a little more culturally aware, which is wonderful.

This book just consistently failed to keep my attention. I wasn’t attached to the characters like I usually am with Sabina Khan books. I didn’t get to the daughters POV, so that probably influenced my decision, but I honestly don’t feel like putting in the effort to get there.
