I'm a big Cormac McCarthy fan but have never felt that motivated to read this one because the Coen Brothers adaptation is one of my favorite films. I had heard this book started as a screenplay so figured there wasn't much there to differentiate it from the movie.

No Country for Old Men was recommended by a colleague and it had been a while since I rewatched the movie, so decided to give it a shot. It is definitely extremely similar to the movie but still a great read. It's suspenseful, hard to put down, and has more time to expand on some of the themes alluded to in the movie. Highly recommended, especially if you haven't rewatched the movie in a bit.

Read this for my Villains in Contemporary Fiction class. We studied Chigurh, Bell, and Moss. I liked the writing and the analysis we did on each character. Chigurh might be one of the scarier villains I’ve read about.

I love the story, but there were definitely some creative liberties I did not like.
Maybe it was the version on the kindle that was awful with this but no quotations around dialogue drove me nuts!
Also, the ending has so much “profound” speak. It just kept droning on. And when you think it’s finally over… there’s another chapter.
