The concept was cool, but in practice, I didn’t like how the book was arranged. Each chapter was a random combination of commentary and conversation, making it hard to follow at times, and it was unclear what the timing of the sessions looked like relative to each other. Also, the last chapter suddenly switched gears into short essays, which I didn’t like. Additionally, as a therapist myself, Sehee’s therapist was giving so much advice and perspective packaged as truth that I did not agree with.

I think this was a really courageous thing to publish but the book itself is not organized very well - it's transcripts of therapy sessions and some seemingly unrelated short essays - and the psychiatrist honestly didn't seem very helpful aside from prescribing medications.

Interesting and relatable and hopeful book!

Defo recommend to anyone struggling with mental health issues or you have a mental illness or if you just want to find out more about mental health and what it is like living with certain illnesses.

Haven’t read a memoir in a long time but glad I managed to finish this!

Also, the title of this book is perfect 😹👏🏽

Baek Sehee went to therapy so you don’t have to (I’m kidding, find a good therapist if that’s accessible to you). The first 14 out of 15 chapters are direct conversations with her and her therapists with her giving commentary before and after. I appreciate how extremely vulnerable she had to be for that, expressing dark things she doesn’t like about herself, flaws that she knows is a constant work in progress. Chapter 15 is filled with various short essays that are poetic like about different aspects of her life and her thoughts. Very different memoirs style. It’s also painfully relatable

Better than I thought. I read it in about one day!

I really related to Se-hee at times and it is always nice to feel seen. What I really liked was this just bringing back memories of sessions with my own therapist.

I didn't like how the front had the mix of essays and transcripts but then it abruptly stopped and only had essays at the end. I wish it was more evenly spaced out. I am not sure if all the essays at the end were added in the translated version or later releases. I would like to know.

If you like memoirs and have been a 20-something year old woman with low self esteem you may like this. To be honest I find Se-hee including parts about herself that I didn't really like made the book feel more honest. Not like we have to fully like someone to like their book. Kinda the whole point and weird if you feel like you have to.

I saw the title and laughed out loud, so I went into this book expecting it to be super relatable and full of dark humor... Sadly the title isn't really representative of the book's content or tone.

While initially excited to read transcripts of real-life therapy sessions, I ultimately felt those conversations were dry, lacking in depth, and repetitive.

I also struggled to relate to the author's difficulties and perspectives, even though the book's blurb suggested a lot of similarities between myself and the author.
