While I found it mildly enjoyable, I have to confess, I don’t understand the hype. The first half was good, but a little too full of civil war era Protestant anecdotes about morality, and the second half felt disjointed and at some points completely out of line with previously established character developments. Since when did Jo have a dream of opening a boys school? Since when did Amy and Laurie have any sort of connection, let alone a romantic one? It felt rushed and forced and overall, a little disappointing. Alcott’s favorite take seems to be “poverty is great! Builds character!” And that women ultimately need husbands and children to be happy.
I can see why this book is beloved by many; it has a heartwarming story and the characters are lovable, but I was, again, disappointed, especially after years of hearing about it and the clear potential it has to be far better.

Such an interesting book. Loved the development of all characters and thoroughly enjoyed this book. Would definetly say that my favourite was Jo. Kinda wish her and Laurie ended up together
