I liked getting some background information on Ryber, and this was a pretty good inbetween book while waiting for Bloodwitch to come out.

I’m giving this four stars, because even though I didn’t enjoy it, I know I’ll like it when I go back and reread. My only problem with this is that it just felt unnecessary. As soon as I finished Windwitch, I was desperate to dive into Bloodwitch, so having to read this in between frustrated me. Especially because while Sightwitch is important, it doesn’t feel that way. It just serves to introduce more questions without actually answering any, and attempts to give depth to other side characters. Not my favorite, but I wasn’t in the mood to read it, so my review isn’t reliable at all.

Now I have to read Bloodwitch and Witchshadow immediately because this was wow, probably my favourite Witchlands installment so far!

I definitely don't think this book is as good as Truthwitch or Windwitch but that could heavily have been influenced by only having a part of the book.

I am not totally sure if the beginning of the excerpt is the actual beginning of the book but I found myself kind of confused and looking for context or information about nearly everything for most of the 120 pages..

Arguably my favourite part of the first two books in this series is the relationships and that was just honestly absent from this book. Instead it was replaced with this odd POV/time switching perspectives that honestly did not in anyway do anything for the story other than make it choppy. Chapters weren't particularly long so everytime something started to happen there was a cut off and you got brought back to something else that really didn't have anything to do with what was going on in the other timeline.

Based on the layout of the eARC...I'm a little underwhelmed with the quantity of illustrations that appear to be getting slotted in for the final copy. There's large chunks without anything when I was hoping/thinking it would be a little more consistent like Language of Thorns by L Bardugo.

I'm also desperately hoping the rest of the book actually includes some magic because there was VERY little of that in this excerpt.

On the positive side, the ending really picked up and got me excited to get a final copy.

Everytime I read a novella, I think "does this contribute anything to the actual series?"

Now in full disclosure, it's been a while since I read Truthwitch and Windwitch (hence why I'm not actually rating it right now) but I legit don't know what this did for the series.

The story was a little all over the place with the name and POV jumping and the illustrations were honestly completely unnecessary and nothing super gorgeous.

*Puts Truthwitch and Windwitch back in TBR* I'll try to marathon these three and figure it out.

I love this world! It's always sort of hard for me to get started with these books - I don't know why - but I always love them. Same goes with this novella, and hopefully I'm continuing with Bloodwitch soon!
