Okay, Doerr’s tone is definitely one of my favorites. Have to give it to the Finnish translator, the tone has remained close to the original.

I loved this book. And I want to read it again. But I can’t give it full 5 stars. Sometimes this book was just too hard to grab, probably because the copy I read was 700 pages. As soon as I started reading though, it totally caught me. Usually. The last fourth was definitely the best of the story, oh how the plots were plotting. Actually, I would have probably enjoyed the story more if at least 200 pages were cut and added some padding to the end. It would have been nice to get the full aftermath.

Overall, extremely beautiful and somehow comforting story, captivating characters and interesting, heartbreaking storylines. Just give me more of ever after and less of embroidery and mrs. Boydstun.

I listened to this as an audiobook. It is the kind of book the I loved the more further i got in the book. it is very unique and interesting in it's structure. I would recommend to people who like historical fiction, future past and "present" masterfully intertwined. it is a nice read

Honestly, I am not exactly sure how to review this book. It's incredibly intricate, incredibly well written with a very strong eye toward character development. It's a really unique construction of a story, I think that the premise of the book itself is very fascinating. I definitely felt a strong connection to the story, which is actually pretty interesting because I don't think I can say that I had a strong connection to any of the characters. Not that they were written poorly or they were unbelievable, I just had the chance to move between them so often in service of the larger story. I also still really wish there had been more of a fine point on the ending, like what actually is happening on earth? Especially the story with the spaceship.

Absolutely stunning. You might have to take notes, and you'll immediately want to start it over again once you finish. The timelines this book weaves together are so alien to each other at first, but ancient Greek literature touches them all, and they're all so achingly human. Every single character matters and the nonlinearity of the plot is so intentional and meaningful. You're constantly surprised, left wondering. This book is about time, and hardship, and the futility of trying to escape those things. It's about librarians, too, and hope. It's about people. It'll stay with me.
