I listened to this as an audiobook. It is the kind of book the I loved the more further i got in the book. it is very unique and interesting in it's structure. I would recommend to people who like historical fiction, future past and "present" masterfully intertwined. it is a nice read

A book about finding hope in the darkest circumstances. Loveable characters, historical fiction and speculative fiction living side-by-side. You will laugh, you will cry, you will google politics of 15th century Constantinople. You need to read this book.

SO engaging and entertaining! A journey that keeps you guessing and invested. Tension-building in this thang was masterful, but the beats intended to be most dramatic/tense/climactic did not have that satisfying punch I expected them to (Nay, needed them to!). Also unfortunately, the ending didn't hit for me at all :( I still had an enjoyable time with it, but can't say I loved it after finishing. Still, strong writing + fun ride keeps it in the 4 stars for me^^

OH MY GOD. like always, his style is just so. fucking. good. it's rich and deep and his word choice is SO unique and beautiful. however it sometimes is useless, all in all i think he distracts too much from his own story sometimes by describing in a bit too much detail. HOWEVER. stunning. concerning. riveting. people complain it's too long but the flow is good enough that it passes quickly

I read this book for the StoryGraph genre challenge, which I love. This is the ONLY book StoryGraph gave me that matched all of my most commonly read features - probably because I read quite a variety and so my common features are a bit random. The beginning was rough for me, that is all that keeps this from being five stars - books that have multiple different storylines are intimidating to me. However, I ended up treating it like a series of short stories, so I was shocked when I got to the end and was GENUINELY, DEEPLY invested in how the stories came together. It was a beautiful love story to the power of books & libraries & stories, all of my favorite things in a book!!
