I see why this won awards! It was a little slow for me at first but once the action picked up, I was hooked! I could never have imagined these stories intertwining the way that they did.

It was a slow start, but I really did come around to Cloud Cuckoo Land by the middle of the novel. It was a bit confusing to understand what was happening between the multiple years and perspectives at first, but I ended up really enjoying it. I adored All The Light We Cannot See, and while CCL doesn’t have the same oomph factor, I can’t help but be charmed by Anthony Doer’s way of telling interconnected stories that last many years. I also love the theme of stories connecting people through time. It seems a bit self-important for an author to say that, but it really is true. I ended up enjoying CCL quite a bit. 4 stars.

This book requires a lot of patience to get through but the plot twists are so worth it. I would love a sequel with just what happened to
Konstance after she leaves the argos and her life with her son
. The pace is much slower than his first book but this one is equally beautiful.

This is a book that is hard to classify. Is it literary fiction? Historical fiction? Science fiction? All three? Regardless of what you call it, the characters are richly written, and the three stories are each compelling in their own right. This is a 600 page book that, at times, reads like a thriller. About two-thirds of the way through, I learned something that made me want to cry. And at the end, I found myself wanting to hug this book and read it again. The central theme is so brilliantly summed up by this line: “The world as it is is enough.” This is probably the easiest five-star review I’ve given all year.
