Every time I read about Katherine of Aragon I am in awe of her fortitude and unwillingness to compromise anything for her conscience. The young marriage to a sickly prince of Wales; the quabbles of her father and father-in-law that reduced her to poverty; years of miscarriages, still-births, and deaths of her infant children; and finally the abandonment of her husband and the persecution of her faith; Katherine suffered greatly and yet never forgot her rank and dignity. As a historian, Alison Weir does a better job than others I have read in depicting Queen Katherine's life, while still capturing the imagination. I was drawn into this book more than others previously, and I am a ravenous reader of Tudor fiction. I can't wait to start book two.
It has taken me months probably six months to finish this book but I really did enjoy it. I’ve always been fascinated with the story of King Henry VIII and it was so fun getting to read such a detailed and entertaining telling of his story. I want to read the others but I might need a short break...
