Amazing book, both great narrative and historical accuracy. I'm so excited for the next in the series.

3.5 stars. Weir does a really good job of blending mostly fact and a little fiction so it reads easier. It did feel like it dragged on a bit through the second half, but I am sure that is how Katherine felt while she was exiled.

I won an advance copy of this novel in a Goodreads Giveaway (THANK YOU !!!).

I loved this book; it is quite a large book, but it was completely engrossing and reading it was effortless.

Katherine had only ever been a support character in the books I have read in the past, the woman cast off for Anne Boleyn, so I was interested to know her story. Allison Weir’s Katherine is intelligent, loyal, strong, and incredibly brave.

The problem with Historical Fiction is that we already know how the story ends, but as I got to know her, I desperately wanted a happier ending for Katherine. Katherine's story captured me from the first page and I felt very protective of her. (I found myself wanting a time machine so I could tell Anne Boleyn to enjoy her smirks and snide remarks while she still has a head to make them with......and tell the surprisingly vain and image conscious Henry that he will be remembered as a nasty, portly old man with a penchant for chopping his the heads off people who disagree with him).

I’m really not sure how I feel about reading Anne Boleyn’s story (book 2 of the series) after this – I'm not sure I would enjoy a story of machinations, court intrigue and threats, but I would really struggle with reading an Anne-as-a-victim story after knowing her from Katherine and Mary’s perspective.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Historical Fiction (or anyone who just loves a great story).
