This was so wonderful and I think it's tied for my favorite Emily Henry title now. I absolutely loved Daphne so much, especially her inner struggles with feeling like she wasn't "enough" for anyone. Without getting into it too much, it was immensely relatable and flipped a switch in my mind that helped me finally make sense of some of my own childhood experiences and how they've affected my life and my relationships. 20+ years of searching for an answer for where those feelings of inadequacy came from, and Emily Henry comes in and kicks the door down with one rom-com. Go figure.

While Miles is also a delightful character and I definitely enjoyed his golden retriever energy at first, I loved the reveals about his own inner turmoil and found him so easy to root for. The chemistry between these two was perfection! I love a good best-friends-to-lovers romance, and despite the bizarre circumstances that first brought Daphne and Miles together as roommates, that's exactly the vibe this story gave me: best friends first, partners second, and I adored it.

I'd be remiss to review this book without talking about the side characters, too: Miles' sister Julia and Daphne's co-worker Ashleigh were incredible and I'd happily read a spin-off novel about either of them, should Emily Henry ever choose to write one (or both). Honestly, Ashleigh finding joy would probably be an instant Book of the Year for me. *nudge nudge, Emily*

Emily Henry knocked it out of the park again, and nobody is surprised. I adored this book and am so glad I read it. Thank you yet again, Emily Henry, for gifting your stories to the world. ๐Ÿฅฐ

Thank you to the publisher and LibroFM for the gifted audiobook! All thoughts are honest and my own.

slow-paced

It had its moments but mostly I was confused (so many random contradictory details in both plot and characterization) and bored. I donโ€™t find her writing or characters particularly compelling.

The sex thankfully was a marked improvement from Beach Readโ€ฆbut it was still confusing and hard to picture!

Iโ€™m glad I gave EmHen a second chance. Iโ€™m glad the first ~50 pages drew me in. I wonโ€™t be reading more of her work though.

As a children's librarian in Michigan, if I was going to read any Emily Henry book, it felt like this should be the one. And I'm happy to say I thoroughly enjoyed it! This is very much a character driven romance, but honestly, that's my favorite kind of romance. The characters were great (including the side cast), and I loved all the little Michigan things thrown in throughout.

As a co-worker mentioned, you can tell Henry is a book person because she actually references children's books that kids actually read. Daphne felt authentic as a children's librarian, and we love to see it. Her and Miles have great chemistry, and they were just thoroughly fun to read about.

A bit different from what I normally read, but I could see having a good time with other Emily Henry books! It was a great palate cleanser from a couple of darker reads.

daphne vincent is a childrenโ€™s librarian & miles nowak is a bartender. theyโ€™re friends, but they quickly become better friends when both of their partners leave them for each other

daphne moves in with miles, since her ex moved his new boo in with him & miles now has an extra room. they begin to hang out. amid becoming best friends, they also begin to develop stronger feelings for each other

this book has all the fโ€™s - forced proximity, friends to best friends to lovers, and fake dating. and although this book has a lot of fโ€™s, it gets an a+ from me! ๐Ÿคญ

peter & petra deserved each other. i absolutely hated them

the writing is absolutely beautiful. i love the connection & tension between daphne & miles. their friendship blossomed beautifully. i love all of the friend dates that they went on. and it was immediately palpable when the connection began changing from best friends to lovers

the only thing that kept this from being a 5 star for me was the miscommunication. there were a few instances that couldโ€™ve been quickly resolved if they just paused & talked to each other!

the miscommunication between miles & his sister was also something i disliked. she felt like she was bothering him & keeping him from his full potential and he felt like he was letting her down, meanwhile they both were soooo grateful for each other ๐Ÿฅน

this was my first emily henry & i cannot wait to dive into more! i listened to the audiobook for this book & really enjoyed it

It is my partner's birthday and I have stopped in a bookshop to pick up the latest Emily Henry's book. It is quite sunny and I read about a 100 pages before I decide to stop reading in public as I kept giggling and kicking my feet. I am so enchanted by the story that I pick it back up as soon as I get home. My phone is on mute and I miss seeing the Northern Lights, happening in May thanks to a solar flare.

The characters are charming as they usually are. Daphne reads to me as autistic and works in a children's library. Her biggest flaw seems to be being too wrapped up in a singular person to remember to live her own life - truly she was made for me. Miles is an interesting take on the sunshine character archetype, while it is nice to be nice, his reasoning and motivations felt believable. Everything we hear about the background characters feels fleshed out enough that you can believe they really exist. Per usual, Emily Henry's writing is delightful and engaging. I do not care to travel to the United States but each of her book transports you into a specific state and landscape I might as well already have visited. I was worried this new release would suffer from poor editing as I have seen from You and me on vacation and Book Lovers, but thankfully, it is pretty consistent. The "fake dating" tope is not kept for long which may lead to disappointment for some. There is a countdown towards a certain event, it makes it feel like there is a plot but it remains a slice of life romance. I would have loved to see more of the couple beyond the timeline presented. Ultimately, Beach Read remains my favourite as I like a bit more angst in my stories.

While the story may appeal to most readers, there are explicit scenes not appropriate for a younger audience.
