Actually finished this on the plane yesterday but was too tired to write my review.

I loved this one.

Miles and Daphne were so incredibly fun and dynamic and the banter was top notch. I loved how lighthearted and sweet the story was and it was just like a nice breath of fresh air. The side characters were super fun too, like Ashleigh was so snarky and Julia was really sweet. Peter and Petra can eat my shorts though. I hated them and was happy they didn’t get the happy ending.

Speaking of endings, I loved how in the end, Daphne was the one that got to tell their story.

I JUST LOVED THIS ONE, OK?!

I have previously loved all of Emily Henry's adult romance releases and still somehow this easily took the throne of my favourite Emily Henry novel. I can't explain it. I think my heart actually grew a couple of sizes while reading this book. It is just everything to me.
I think a BIG reason why I loved this book so much as I did is Daphne. I just really connected to her character, and related to her on some fronts as well. I thought her personal character journey throughout this book was so interesting, and unlike anything I have seen in romance books before. I thought it was incredibly well executed as well.
I also just adored her relationship with Miles though. I just thought they worked togehter perfectly. I adore the way their relationship develops, and how they get to know each other more and more throughout the novel. Their emotional connection was just absolutely everything. I also think Emily Henry did a great job balacing them getting over their exes, and healing from their heartbreaks, with them falling in love with each other. It's something that isn't easy to do, something I have seen many books try and fail to do, and it's just so effortlessly done in this one.
Miles' backstory was also really interesting, and I loved seeing him develop throughout the novel as well. I also adored the cast of side characters. They were so much fun, and really blew a breath of fresh air into this novel. I'm especially talking about Julia and Ashleigh with this, but truly every single side character was incredible. Ugh, I just fucking loved this book. Excuse me, while I go cry in a corner thinking about it.

Funny Story was a solid summer romance but not my favorite of Emily Henry’s (don’t get me wrong I fully enjoyed I just think she’s an elite contemporary romance author). This one reminded me a lot of "Just for the Summer" by Abby Jimenez, and I think if I hadn’t read that one first, this might have been an even bigger hit for me.

I adored Daphne and her journey to define her life on her own terms. She made such a fun little found family, and her struggle of making friends as an adult was #relatable. Sweet stoner Miles is definitely a new dream book boyfriend.

The writing was great, just as expected from Emily Henry. I loved the combination of the roommate dynamic and fake dating—it worked perfectly!

Very wholesome and cute.
I didn't know it was a fake dating kind of book and I'm glad because I tend to not like those, but this one really makes sense.
I love that the MMC is actually funny, you rarely get happy, funny guys in these books anymore.
For it to be a 5 stars I would have liked less explicit sex, but that is my personal preference and it is not as descriptive as many romance novels that I've read recently so it didn't make me feel as uncomfortable.
She seems to be getting better at writing romance and I'm here for it.

Hear me out...

This wasn't bad, but in comparison to Emily Henry's other books, this didn't do it as much for me. It could be partially that when I started it I was (and have been) in a strange transitional period of my life, but I don't think that is all it is. I didn't connect very much to the characters and didn't care that much if they got their HEA. There were definitely parts that I enjoyed and annotated, but there were also elements that I struggled to care about. I hate saying this about something one of my auto-buy authors wrote, but you don't follow me to lie to you, so I won't. Hopefully the next one is a banger.

I love Henry’s books. Every one I read I say is my new fave, but I really love them all. This one was no different.
