Children's librarian Daphne finds herself needing a place to live after her fiancé Peter leaves her right before the wedding, for his lifelong best friend Petra, who he always told Daphne not to worry about Conveniently, ironically, Petra's ex-boyfriend Miles, a vintner, is now in need of a roommate, so Daphne moves in. The two become friends, and are clearly interested in more, as Daphne learns to build community in a small town where she previously had no connections besides Peter's friends.

Another sweet story by Emily Henry. I liked the plot setup for this one, and the cast of supporting characters was really charming. The town felt like Schitt's Creek in the best way. Daphne grows a lot throughout the story, and Miles is a flawed by ultimately good person.

My one gripe: The reason for them trying not to get together, the whole foundation for the story's drama, felt half baked, like Henry avoided them dating just for the sake of having something to fill an entire book.

Ok this book was so stinking cute. I’m obsessed with the main characters and believe from the start they are meant to be.
From broken engagements to living with your ex fiancé’s new girlfriend’s ex… this book is so stinking good.
Emily Henry has an incredible way of writing her characters as real people. People with lives and emotions and backstories and real human flaws.
Every single person on earth has a life that has shaped them into who they are, and the way we react and use our experiences to better ourselves is what makes us human.

- roommates
- forced proximity
- fake dating

This book was a perfect mix of romance, self-reflection, friendship and family dynamics. I really love the way Emily Henry takes the romance genre and makes it more profound, more complex - all the while being really funny, too. Only reason why this didn't get 5 stars is because the smut scenes gave me whiplash, and I couldn't fully get into them because I was scared a family member was going to interrupt them halfway through. But other than that, this is great.

I'm glad I didn't give up on Henry after disliking People We Meet On Vacation so much 💕

love love this book and emily henry’s poetic writing. i laughed and cried and was left with that warm fuzzy feeling that you can only get from a good romance book.

edit: i bumped up my rating because i can’t stop thinking about this book. such a sweet story 🩷
