I feel like I shouldn't expect anything less from her. there is a reason she's one of my absolute favourite authors EVER. I love her so much. and I love all her characters so much. somehow I relate to literally all of them in some way. and Miles and Daphne weren't any different.
Miles was like looking in a mirror honestly. the way he's positive and tries to see the good in people first was so me (I'm a lover, not a hater at heart) but then there's also Daphne with the constant fear of being unloveble and always second best or second favourite and that is also SO me.
I loved everything about this book. from the story, to the romance, to the side characters (Ashleigh, my queen, ily).
ALSO, can we talk about the constant references to Portugal???? (PORTUGAL MENTIONED RAHHHH 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹) I fr ran to my family to show them when Pastéis de Nata were mentioned because WHATTT. and in the end when they mentioned Ashleigh's new man is Portuguese and his name Afonso???? (red flag name, but it's okay) HELLO??? I LOVED THAT. I low-key would love a book about them even tho I know Emily doesn't usually write about the side characters 😭 I was so happy when they first mentioned Portugal but I thought that would be it and then it just kept coming 😭 I love it so much 😭🫶🏼
I've already said this but I would literally read this woman's grocery list if she published it. that's how much I love her writing. (and ironically I am signed to her newsletter that is literally called Emily's grocery list 😭)
like every single book I've ever read from her, this is one of my all time favourite books. 🫶🏼

- very slow
- fake dating trope didn’t make sense since everyone knew it was fake ?
- first person present tense
- new age trope of a featureless, personality-less FMC designed for the readers to project themselves into so that they can imagine Miles loving them
- their wit and banter was too similar and also obnoxious
- good representation of daddy issues though
- very slow in the beginning
- s/o to northern Michigan though
- how does a female author manage to fail at writing a woman character
- I didn’t finish in time partly because I was afraid to be seen reading it on the bus
- sex scene was meh
