I liked this. I thought they were very sweet together and the buildup to the final chapter was fun to read. I also liked reading about daphnes life that she was making the effort to create outside of the PP drama. (The ending also was very satisfying to me)

This was a great rom-com read.  The first three quarters of the book were laugh out loud funny and the last quarter the two MCs got in their own ways, so it was a little rough.  Thoroughly enjoyable would read another by her.

Okay, so imagine you're engaged to get married but the night after your fiancé 's bachelor party, he breaks it off because he's in love with his female best friend he previously told you he had a platonic relationship with. Then he says she's moving in, so you have to figure out somewhere to go and end up moving in to her old apartment with the boyfriend she broke up with. Then, your ex-fiancé and his definitely not platonic best friend send you an invite to their wedding. Say what?? So then you and your roommate (the ex of the female best friend, new finaceé) decide you're going to attend the wedding as a couple and decide to fake date...to make them jealous?

If you're intrigued, check out Funny Story by Emily Henry!

This book is laugh out loud funny at parts and is an inspection of the ways we will bend ourselves for love. The FMC goes through a lot of growth throughout and it is a joy to read.

I picked this up on a whim from the Lucky Day Reads* section in the library. Like the other books I've read by Emily Henry I finished in 2 sittings and had I not had to sleep the other night it would have easily been done in one.

Funny Story I feel is more about making friends as an adult, the stickiness of ones 30's, complex relationship with family members and a story about love in all its forms and the raw-ness in finding oneself after what was a terrible relationship with shallow narcissistic people. The book started off like a classic rom com but quickly delved into deeper parts of life without feeling heavy. Emily Henry has a knack for writing the breadth of a person's being that feels light, airy and fun with serious deep soulful scènes in between. This one despite being classified as a romance, and there is a heavy focus on romantic relationships didn't feel like a romance. it felt more like a little "Ode to Close Friends" .... and probably the reality of how hard it can be to make friends as an adult and how we sometimes mess that up.

All in all great fun and good times with plenty of laughter (or in my cake outward chortling). Recommend for readers who enjoy romance, stories about friends and self discovery after heartbreak.

Daphne could be such a frustrating main character at times. I am not sure what to take from that.
I would have loved to read more of her and Miles’ relationship developing after she decides to stay (because we do see her make healthy choices, for herself) and learn how she grows. But then, I do believe that she learns and grows in the book already.

But it is a lovely story. And I believe the portrayal of the ways in which we can develop deeply ingrained patterns of thinking, as well as how those come out. It’s just frustrating to read - and it’s a shame the drama lasts somewhat longer than the rebuilding.
