Okay, so imagine you're engaged to get married but the night after your fiancé 's bachelor party, he breaks it off because he's in love with his female best friend he previously told you he had a platonic relationship with. Then he says she's moving in, so you have to figure out somewhere to go and end up moving in to her old apartment with the boyfriend she broke up with. Then, your ex-fiancé and his definitely not platonic best friend send you an invite to their wedding. Say what?? So then you and your roommate (the ex of the female best friend, new finaceé) decide you're going to attend the wedding as a couple and decide to fake date...to make them jealous?

This book is laugh out loud funny at parts and is an inspection of the ways we will bend ourselves for love. The FMC goes through a lot of growth throughout and it is a joy to read.

I think I love this book even more than the first Emily Henry novel that I read at the beginning of the year. Which is saying something.

This story is a sweet and funny dive into the human psyche: the main couple are both incredibly likeable yet still both have deeply realistic flaws and hang ups that make it even more satisfying when they finally manage to over come them. It's the kind of light hearted romance novel that encapsulates the best aspects of the genre... tho it could have stood to have at least one or two more steamy scenes.

I would have given this a full 5 stars if not for a minot writing based fault that became hard to ignore as the book went on- over use of "he said/she said"... which might only really be a problem when listening to the autobook.

Other than that- this is a neat little story that I can definitely see myself revisting if I need a pick me up.

It took the rapidly approaching release date of Emily Henry's next novel to get me to finally read last year's release and I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Funny Story has quickly established itself as my favorite Henry novel by a landslide.

I see pieces of myself in both Daphne and Miles, and for that I love them dearly. I've not come so close to crying while reading in a long time. To be a children's librarian, establishing herself in a picturesque town, with the love of her life...that's what I want.

Henry's way of writing dialogue and intimacy remains top-tier, I don't know how she does it. It feels effortless. There is no such pleasure like reading one of her stories. Bravo.
