Really enjoyed this one! I haven’t read all of Emily Henry’s books, but I think it’s my favorite from the ones I’ve read so far
2.5/5 I have a hard time evaluating emily henry books because they give me frickin whiplash! I go from “aww so cute” to “god so cheesy” to “ew why is this necessary” to “wow so relatable” back to “ugh so cringe” then to “thats sweet i like that” and finally back to “cringe.”
Things i liked
- i found the personal healing journeys compelling and relatable
- their relationship was wholesome
- almost every character including supporting characters experienced some kind of growth
Things i disliked
- over use of the word “chortle” (wtf) and “want” and “need” as nouns (ew)
- some sex scenes were too graphic. felt like they were there just bc emily henry felt horny and didnt do anything to move the plot forward
- the characters were soo annoyingly thirsty like why did the stupidest things turn them on
- the characters flirt soo cringily and make cheesy jokes
- pacing feels off, some parts dragged on while others were glossed over (i felt this way abt PWMOV too)
- too much telling instead of showing
I think my final reco is that i would not reco this book. The romance part was not original or interesting enough to make up for the cringe.
