Little Book of Tiny Tales: Volume One by Jeremy Ray
“But time transforms all things. It hatched from the cocoon, changed. The hunger was still there,
but so we’re wings.”
Jeremy Ray is the most underrated author on this platform. Yes, I’ve said it. This is the third of his works (well, 58th if you count each tiny tale individually) I’ve read and absolutely adored. Jeremy Ray is one of the best short story writers I’ve ever read, making this format of tiny tales an absolutely perfect way to understand just how great of a writer he is. His stories span genre and tone. I also loved how some of them had sequels, and that a lot of the time Jeremy mentions that the sequels came as a result of readers asking for them. Thanks for giving us more!
Before each tiny tale the author leaves a note about the tiny tale you’re about to read and also an image. The images reminded me of one of my favorite song cycle concerts 35MM: A Musical Exhibition (S/O to @ryanscottoliver) which was rad. And I also loved all the credit Jeremy Ray gave to the inspirations - authors, dreams, just plain feelings he’s had. Just a very humbling way of getting to know him a little better.
My favorite tales were The Bookmark, the Celeste stories, loveofmyLIFE, Old Auntie May’s Groceries, An Unbearable Hunger, Limited Options, Heads of Tales, Black Hole, and The Plan.
10/10.📚🛁✨

This and Jeremy Ray’s other stories are available on Kindle Unlimited, and Amazon
At the beginning of every Jeremy Ray book, or at least every one I’ve read, he includes a micro story to set the stage for the main story. This book is a collection of his micro stories some have been included in his books, most were new to me. Micro stories are very interesting to me because you have to build the same feelings you would in a longer story, but you only have a few sentences to do it. I’ve enjoyed every story by Jeremy I’ve read, but I really enjoyed this one in particular. Along with each story was a picture and a short commentary, or explanation to accompany it. It made this book feel extremely personal because it was like he was setting up each story for you himself. I liked every story in this collection and I couldn’t narrow my favorites list to just a few so I just marked every story that happened to appeal to me just a little more then the rest:
- Belle of the ball
- The award
- Zedan women
- Wound up
- Not a witch
- In my dreams
- Honestman (this one really made me laugh because my mom and I joke around about ‘shitty superpowers’ all the time)
- Moment of peace
- LoveofmyLIFE (this one and its sequel gave me deadly attraction/stalker vibes 😂)
The stories varied in genre and it was fun to see the versatility he has as an author. I liked revisiting stories I’d already read, and reading new ones especially getting to hear the thoughts behind the story, when and how he came up with them, and how he feels about his stories and characters. I can’t wait to read what stories he comes up with in the future.

Reading Little Book of Tiny Tales made me think about the chocolate fancy hotels leave on your pillow as part of their turn down service. Instead of reading from start to finish, I read one or two micro stories each night before bed. Savoring and ruminating on each little story like fine chocolate as I drifted off into sleep.
Jermey Ray’s Little Book of Tiny Tales is an anthology of fifty-six micro stories. Coming in at under 100 words each, the importance of the size of the story in the word count matters. Even though each of these stories were little snippets into the lives of the characters, they all expertly elicited some kind of an emotional response - which is what all readers crave.
I enjoyed all of these little tales, but these are a few of my favorite emotional responses:
The Head Witch of Witch Manor - Vindication
The Bookmark - Heartache
Once in a Lifetime - Peace
Mrs. Pembleton Murders - ambivalence
BROCK HUDSON was in MY KITCHEN! - Relief
If you haven’t checked out Jeremy Ray’s work yet, I highly recommend you do.
Thank you to Jeremy Ray for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

I was first introduced to this author last year and binge read a few of his stories. I quickly fell in love with his writing style and the fact that he can write across genres.
While reading his stories, I was introduced to what he calls micro-stories. I'm usually not a fan of short stories and these are even shorter than the norm but somehow...I ended up really loving them.
With this compilation, we get the author's explanations with the micro-story following. They were all enjoyable to read, but most especially I enjoyed the why/how behind the writing.
My favorites from this volume would be the stories about Jan and Stu, A Lonely Haunting and the stories about Celeste. I love the idea that the author may create a novella delving into Celeste's world.
This one is free on Kindle Unlimited so go snag it and give it a go.

Out of the 56 micro-stories mentioned, I enjoyed 17 of them.
First of all, this book of tales has so much wonder and imagination put into it by the author and I'm mesmerized by his ability to do so. I was entranced by some of the stories, at the same time other stories fell a bit short for me. The thing is, those that I like most are peculiar and dark ones that really capture the depths of Jeremy Ray's imagination.
I love how every micro-story has its introduction wherein the author gives context about his process of writing it and I think that's a good thing because not only did he share his works of wonder but he also highlighted how every story came into fruition.
Love this volume and looking forward to more micro-stories that will keep me on the edge of my sit and stir my deep darkest imaginations.

56 micro tales less than hundred words ! Now that sounds cool isn’t it ! That is exactly why I was curios to read Little book of tiny tales - Anthology flash fiction ! I have read a previous work by this author , a short story called House plant !! I loved the book with all my heart. It made me smile and cry at the same time I remember rating it 5⭐️’s
The author did not disappoint me a bit ! I loved most of the stories I cannot even pick one favourite. They were short yet powerful spooky smart and well structured and subtle it leaved you craving for more ! Above all I love how the author gave a tiny bit of info before each story on how / what inspired the next tale / flash story , sometimes nightmares , sometimes from works by others etc
Highly recommend ! Do check it out guys !

I love micro stories! Or flash fiction, or small fiction, or tiny tales, and whatever other names people are using to label the same thing: tiny stories that pack so much more than their size. I have long followed such works on twitter. Recently, due to reading this book, I was surprised to discover that not only lots of people don't know about them, but they can't even phantom their existence!
So, *clears throat* come with me and 🎶I can show you the world🎶 of micro fiction, and what better way to start than with this collection!
Some stories are heartwarming, some pack a punch, some are very clever and entering them without any worldbuilding actually makes them better. Go figure! It's fun how such a small thing can also be so creepy or ominous, leave you uncomfortable or horrified.
I started the book by tearing up, and experienced many many emotions with a single volume. Jeremy, I can't wait for volume 2!! *slowly peeking Dr. Who emoji*
This is perfect for mixed genre readers, like myself, but it will for sure have something for everyone. It's fast paced so it can be read in one sitting, but also during lunch breaks, commute, or between books to distance yourself from your last read and enter a new world.
Try micro fiction today! Doctor's orders.

Jeremy Ray is truly a talented writer and Little Book of Tiny Tales is proof of that. This anthology of micro-stories spans several genres. Jeremy weaves from heartwarming to heartbreaking, happy to creepy and everything in between. If you think a story told in less than 560 characters can't have as big of an impact as a 500 page novel, I think Little Book of Tiny Tales will change your mind. I recommend this book to any reader. It's a quick read and I don't think you'll be disappointed.
