This book was one of my favorites that I've read this summer. It went through all the emotions of laughing, feeling mad at certain characters, being sad for the kids, and then being happy for the relationships that were built.

Interesting story line and I liked Lillian's compassion for the children. Her compassion for them seemed to surprise her. Even though she had many challenges that she struggled to find her way through, she didn't become bitter, or vengeful. I enjoyed her journey.
Madison, on the other hand, was cold-blooded. She just wanted what she wanted and wasn't going to let anyone get in her way. She was a smart, even in some ways admirable, antagonist
The ending of the story seemed incomplete, which was a big disappointment.
Another issue was the repeated use of one swear word. I find that a bit like nails on a chalkboard.
