Stories about traumatised children learning that they can find love and family again? Caretakers who never thought they could be good at their job growing into their role and the bumpy way familial love can blossom for children who you barely know? Magical realism? Well written kids? Complicated lesbian content? This book was fashioned into an arrow designed specifically to pierce a very tender part of my fragile heart.
The whole bursting into fire thing works so well as a metaphor for volatile emotions that children experience as they try to make sense of the world around them and so it was incredibly fun to see it taken in such a literal fashion and in such a matter-of-fact manner. The kids are so believably naive and angry and difficult and lovable though they seem to be written slightly younger than they actually are? idk. I need to work with more kids I suppose.

I loved this book! I listened to it all in one day! The plot was just far enough out there to be intriguing, without being so far our to be unbelievable. Highly recommend!
I liked it. Not something that knocked my socks off, but it was good. Will still recommend.
