I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this story. I don’t normally read about the civil war. This novel just did a great job, telling you a enough about the facts of the war (battles, generals, conditions) while weaving details about the lives of these women. They were masterful spies and there is so much to learn from their spy craft. Great writing and a great story kept my attention to a subject matter I normally skip. It’s well worth the time.
I really enjoyed this book. Karen Abbott did a great job of bringing Belle Boyd, Emma Edmonds, Rose O'Neale Greenhow, and Elizabeth Van Lew to life.
Brilliant account of four women during the Civil War, two for each side, and the lengths they went to in order to support their cause. I would highly recommend to any that enjoy Civil War history.
