Heart tugging story of a Syrian couple fleeing the civil war in Syria, through Syria, Turkey, Greece until they arrive in England. Told in first person from Nuri's POV by an author who worked in camps for refugees in Greece taking stories she had heard from refugees to give them a voice. Such fear, loss and devastation but always hope that one day they will get to safety. The metaphor of using the bees to mirror family, community, resilience and adaption to change was interesting. I listened to this on audible read brilliantly by Art Malik. Very emotional read/listen.
Interesting portrayal of the trauma associated with refugees. Difficult to appreciate if you don’t know a refugee.

This is a beautiful book. The writing is so wonderfully descriptive and weaves the most vivid scenes inside your head. The story itself is both beautiful and haunting and describes what it means when you are caught in the cross hairs of war. It's a story of heartbreak, courage and survival. And I love the bees.

I loved this book and I think it is actually worth 4.5 stars.
It is such a heartbreaking story. You can really feel the people's emotions, because it is written so realistically.
I also loved the fact that every chapter contained a bit of the proces and travel they had to go through to get in England and the procedures they were going through in London.
This book was truly an eye-opener. The descriptions of the situations they were put in were just sad and propably very accurate.
I don't have a lot of comments to this book and so this review is going to be short.
It is a great book and I'd really recommend this to anyone to read. It is a very easy read, it goes not too fast, but also not too slow.
I will not discuss the story in this review (I wanted this post to not contain any spoilers)

I defy you to read this and not have a weep at the courageous journey that is undertaken by people fleeing their beloved countries. The determination of the human spirit, after it is crushed and stamped on by horrific life-changing dangers gives the storyline an uplifting vibe at times. This fictional (but I can imagine very true to life) book tells the journey of a couple from Aleppo in Syria who battle their way to England. The pace and rhythm of the alternate chapters of England and their journey suck you in. I left the book hoping for a bright future for the families. Loved it
