Her use of bird puns instead of curse words doesn’t take away from the fact shes cursing, and it doesn’t make her quirky, it infantises someone who is already in a LARGE age gap romance. why u going “oh crow” while being spanked bestie bffr

Also i beg, the adams apple is not that interesting. STOP TALKING ABOUT IT

Possibly my favorite mafia dark romance book I’ve read the entirety of 2022.

I loved the dynamic between Rory and Angelo. They were very much “will they/won’t they.”

I always love a book where the FMC has a backbone and may be slightly crazy themselves. If I’m rooting for the FMC, I know I’ve connected with her and the book. And I was rooting Rory, no matter the outcome.

Angelo, woo baby. How much I wanted to fight this man at one point in the book. But honestly, he was also a great MMC. I like that although he’s known to be vicious, you really see different sides to him. He’s a brother and a son (his mother’s) before anything else. Plus he pulled his head out of his for Rory.

This is an age gap romance which honestly didn’t feel like one to me. Yes, there’s a 15 age difference. But because Rory is 21 and because she’s about to marry a 70-year-old, the gap didn’t feel weird.

3.5/5 on the spice scale. While they don’t actually have sex until the end of the book, they are intimate in other ways. Plus they both like their kinks (spanking, semi-public)

It’s so hard to find a good mafia romance with characters who don’t become cheesy or overly done. This book delivered. It was a delicious slow burn with amazing tension. Somme’s writing really pulls you in. The imagery was so easy to picture, it really transported you to the scene.

Angelo was dark perfection. I find that a lot of authors seem to have trouble writing morally grey/dark characters who remain that way throughout the book while also still having good character development. Somme does not seem to have that problem. Angelo remained a ruthless man while still falling in love with Rory. I’m a simp for possessive, protective men (in books) and Angelo fit the bill.

I loved Rory. Her personality was sweet with a dark edge. She was so innocent but had that darkness in her that responded to Angelo. Also, her bird puns were so unique, I loved them.

This was an amazing slow burn romance. I only have two complaints. It needs more proofreading for typos (at least the Kindle version) and I’d have loved a bit more spice after all the build up. But neither of these things are enough to reduce the amount of stars. This is one of my top mafia romance reads now.
