The best thing about this book was Angelo, aka Vicious Visconti, a Made Man who went straight. Or so he says. Except the Visconti brothers from Devil’s Dip have a special game they’ve been playing since they were kids and it involves knowing everybody’s business. They own a confessional hotline called Sinners Anonymous, and every week, they get to punish the worst sinner.
I liked how that came back to the game they played when they were kids, listening in on their father’s confessional booth in the church, and also back to how their mama used to say the good cancels out the bad.
The more your learn about the family dynamics and the drama, the more intrigued I was by these brothers. Especially about Gabe, for some reason.
Rory on the other side… I wasn’t a big fan of hers for the longest of time. I liked her attitude and the way she talked back, I found myself a lot in her when she managed to show a little bit more of her true self. I couldn’t get why she would marry into the mafia and to a man that could be her grandfather no less, just to save a swamp. I’m all for nature, but I would find another way.
Of course, when everything is explained, I felt like a jerk.
Okay. Now, things I didn’t like that much: Rory’s bird-words?! This girl needs to learn how to curse. At first it was endearing, but that got old real quick and it started being annoying. I mean, you can get spanked with a belt on the side of the road by your fiance’s nephew, but you can’t say ‘fuck’?
