I loved this. So easy to read and offered escapism even as I travelled what sometimes felt like a similar trip.
I get the issues of colonialism and casual racism, however, we don't read these texts to situate them in the modern world. Instead they tell us about lives and attitudes of the times they were written in which, in this novel, are often so ridiculous they make for great entertainment. Reading classics allow us to realise how far we've come while also drawing parallels to nonsensical ideologies that still exist in our times and demonstrating how outdated they are.
Introduction of this edition really useful for thinking about overarching theme of modernity and development of machinery and technology.

A charming adventure with trains, boats, and way too many outdated attitudes. Cute, but let’s just say it didn’t age quite as gracefully as Phileas Fogg’s punctuality.
