I found everyone in this compelling and wonderfully written. I loved that no one changed who they were for the other, and how easy it was to see why bonds were formed.

There was a lot of plot for one story: treason and exile; a competition from a wife-hunting duke; the creation and running of a "gaming hell." Suprisingly, it didn't feel like too much. If anything, it just felt strange when the slower moments took time, like the visit to the Kent Cottage. It did make me think the pacing was a little off.

Unlike other complaints, I didn't mind the miscommunication trope as I could fully understand why they couldn't be together at first (her entailment requiring a titled gentleman), and why he didn't want to be with her after (his shame in his own position). I didn't like that it only took him a year to apparently become the best "fighter" around, but it's a story so I can survive it.

All-in-all, a brilliant read that's made me consider going back to the Sins for All Seasons series.
