This story is also included in the collection Blood From a Stone: A Twisted Villains Anthology. It expands the story of Rumpelstiltskin, giving him more depth and humanity. I'm a huge fan of Rumpelstiltskin and I always look forward to seeing how authors weave new tales about the master gold spinner. What I loved about this story was the added detail that made the character an anti-hero, with the reader now rooting for him getting the child rather than against him. Unfortunately, I was hoping this would extend the original fairy tale's plot instead of simply filling in the blanks with more backstory. If you're wanting a great story, you'll still fine an excellent retelling here, but without the additional storyline that might have made this one stand out from the pack.
