An ode to the classic “Carrie” with a refreshing modern twist, that creates a fantastical story about what microagressions, racism, hypocrisy, societal influence, and psychological abuse can do to a person. The origin of her power really got me thinking about the one drop rule through the lens of “evil”, ancestry and epigenetics. The term “I am not my ancestors” hold a different weight in this story. I have so much more I want to say but I don’t want to write an essay. So many connections made in this story. I loved it and I want MORE! #RighteousRage

GREAT, GORY, ABSOLUTLY AMAZING!! Great book, the story embraces you and makes everything so real to the point you can feel and see all the things that are being described in the most realistic way.
Its the type of book you read and think "This should be turned into a movie ASAP"

Listen to the audiobook. Listen to the audiobook. Listen to the audiobook. You’ll get way more out of this if you listen to the audiobook. The sound effects and the the cast of narrators really moved this story along.

I will admit, I did not enjoy Carrie, it’s not my usual genre that I read. I DNF it twice. I have never really sat through the movie in one sitting. However, this retelling, this modernization of Carrie was phenomenal. There were parts of it that were uncomfortable for me, as they should be. But as someone who was a senior in high school in May of 2014 these characters were believable. The story was believable.

I felt like the pacing was slightly off. We needed the full story, but the first 3/4 of the book set up the last 1/4 and so much was shoved into that last 1/4. There were times in the beginning where I was thinking to myself okay. Trust the process. Everyone raves about this that you know has read the book. And the by the end, I was like how can this be almost over I want more.

If I had not listened to the audio book I probably would have rated this a 4 - 4.5. But that is mostly because this is not my genre. But the audio book pushes it just that much further.

Maybe I’m bored because I’m so familiar with the Carrie story and this is so close to that. Maybe the anger and annoyance I feel with all the racism isn’t worth continuing the reading experience. Either way, I just really don’t want to pick up this audiobook again. I tried to hold out for the twist I think is coming, but I just don’t care enough. So I’m calling it.
