So eyecatching, interesting and thought provoking, literally could not place this book down. Currently she has written the only book that I have read from cover to cover in one sitting, while in Normandy France as well!

A beautiful, hopeful, heartbreaking account.

It’s much more than the traumatising history I expected. In some ways it’s a charming coming-of-age story. Hearing the very real trials and tribulations of a ‘normal’ 13-year-old - stuck in a room with a bunch of ’stupid’ adults - can, at times, be very funny and charming.

But it has a menacing countdown throughout, and the final pages were always going to have me in tears.

But it’s as inspiring as it is depressing. Faced by the worst events imaginable, Anne is so wise and forgiving. She writes beautifully about life and love and humanity and hunger and purpose and society and family and friendships. And the Dutch people who support those in the Annexe are a source of great hope for the future.

I hope we’ve learned from this period of history.

I loved it! Such a unique look into someone's, but especially a young struggling girls (or women's like how she felt it) mind. things and time are so different, yet the emotions and experience are so the same. Things almost every girl growing up feel, but never says or even sometimes dares to think of, she wrote down and expressed so purely and real (not knowing others would read it). It gives room to think all the while reading on the state of self, families, groups, Country's and cultures, without being imposing or philosophical. I would recommend it to anyone, but especially to other girls/women who feel trapped or stuk what ever situation or place.

Very interesting and very sad especially the afterword. I learned and read parts of this in school, but never the whole thing. I do have to say don’t go into this expecting like an action packed diary because it’s not it’s this poor girls diary where she shared her preteen/teenage thoughts.

I decided not the give this book a proper rating as I just wasn’t comfortable with doing so. But this book was heartbreaking and inspiring. For such a young girl she had beautifully profound thoughts and taught many lessons that I think everyone could learn something from. If Anne was able to grow older, I am certain she would have continued to be a courageous, self aware and loving individual and turned out to be an incredibly talented and successful author! 💗💗
