This is the most beautiful and touching autobiography I have ever read.  Walden's storytelling was amazing.  The strong sense of voice mixed with the simple yet extremely communicative art style sealed this as a five star for me.  In every aspect I could feel how this book was a raw release of emotion.  I am so glad that this was my introduction to Walden's work and I cannot wait to explore the rest of it

i love graphic novels and i think all tillie walden’s work exemplifies why for me. in the author’s note she says this memoir was more about sharing a feeling than memories and that came across so well - i got completely pulled into to the mood and connected really strongly with a lot of it (read this at kind of a perfect time wrt to some feelings i’m working out irl :,))

Walden wrote about feelings and I think that was done perfectly. It encapsulates the feelings she felt wonderfully, with an added layer of her looking back and using about feelings to tell a story. There’s something about her story and the way she chose to tell it that felt incredibly personal to me and relatable. I really valued what she chose to make important to the story, and what was important fluctuated, which was so true to see.

I did not expect how deeply this book would affect me. I was completely emotionally invested.

Tillie Walden is such a talented writer and artist, and I was happy to read this memoir to learn more about her journey after enjoying her other works. "Spinning" takes us through the world of ice skating, Walden's coming out story, and the tumultuous time of being a teenager with responsibilities constantly pulling you in different directions. It's an emotional and poignant read that I highly recommend.
