I’m in two minds about whether Fleetwood’s complete naivety and risk awareness is purposefully built in to show her age and therefor the dire situation she has been inserted into. Or she’s insufferable and just needs to stop travelling across Lancaster for the plot. Also so many missed opportunities for that big dog to just murder all those men and let the queer girlies live in their ‘good friend’ hut in peace.

Not my usual genre, but I was interested because Witches.
I found this very slow at the start but enjoyed the last 30ish%.

really great read that had me hooked from the jump. great examination of womanhood and friendship all against the backdrop of witch trials in the 1600s

The Familiars is a histroical fantasy book. I loved that the characters actually were based upon real people in the Pendle Witch trials. This was my book club book for APRIL 2025. I loved the development of Fleetwood - the main character - and honestly this book made me hate all the characters who were men. I loved the story line and all the background information given. Definitely worth a read!
