5 stars!
This was amazing! I was hooked by the plot from the start and I really enjoyed reading Riona and Raylan's povs!
From the assassin plot, to the forced proximity and new scenery, it still gave me Mafia vibes but to me, this was refreshing and unique! And I loved the interactions between Raylan's family and some of their history

Well, I really expected Riona to end up with Dante, but it turns out that Raylan was the perfect guy for her all along. I’ve been excited to get a peek into Riona’s head and how it works since the first book and I wasn’t disappointed at all by her story!
Riona Griffin’s determined to be seen as a formidable opponent, both in and out of the courtroom, and has built up walls around herself to create a stern, no nonsense persona. Everything about her is perfectly calculated - her appearance, her personality, her dates, her ambition...but being the target of an assassin really turns her world upside down, starting with the addition of Raylan Boone to her daily life.
Raylan served in the military with Dante and has traveled the world with a team of mercenaries, so when Callum and Dante decide she needs a personal bodyguard, Raylan is the first person they call. He’s a country boy whose specialty is reading people and he’s got Riona’s number. While serving as her bodyguard, he picks up on how to thaw out the ice queen and turn her into a living, breathing, feeling human again.
I couldn’t see the connection between the two of them at first other than the obvious physical attraction. But once they get out of Chicago, both of them start to flourish and finally come into their own as characters, connecting on a different level and finally opening up about the things they keep hidden from everyone else. I really enjoyed seeing them push each other, grow together and really accept their own happiness. This pairing felt the most real of all the pairings so far - they became more together than they ever could have been apart.
My biggest complaint is that there wasn’t enough closure on their story. Even if there’s some mentions of Riona and Raylan in the last book in the series, it won’t be enough. Once they make their decision to really be together, there’s so much more I’d like to see but I’m not hopeful we’ll ever get to see them happy and thriving together in their new environment.

∞/5 ⭐️
I feel like I relate to each of Sophie's heroines in one way or another. I had always been intrigued by Riona but didn't necessarily like or dislike her. Getting inside of her head made everything so clear as to why she had such a rigid nature. I loved getting to travel to Tennessee with Raylan and Riona. I have a soft spot for family dynamics and adored Raylan's family.
Raylan was such a perfect MMC. He didn't try to control Riona or take her independence from her but showed her that it's okay to be vulnerable, to give up control sometimes, and to let herself let go. He was so patient with her and was persistent without being too pushy. I loved what he brought out of Riona and what she brought out of him too. Raylan being her bodyguard emphasized how much he wanted to protect her by the time he developed feelings for her.
This was another perfect book. I try not to give out 5 ⭐️ or ∞/5 ⭐️ very easily, but almost all of the books in this series give me such intense feelings. This series is so addicting.
