I really enjoyed this book! It was genuinely such a mindless, fun read. It went at a great pace and kept me interested the whole time. One thing about Cassandra Claire is that she always knows how to nail the comedic relief characters. I thought the storyline was creative with the plot being unpredictable which is always a huge bonus for me. The action and battle scenes were also very well described and easy to picture. The only reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars is that I’m not always a huge fan of the savior complex (in this case Will). I know he pushes Tessa away, because he doesn’t want to hurt her blah blah blah. I find its just a common theme in young adult novels and sometimes sets up this attribute to be glorified when it reality its just toxic. That being said, I do have a weakness for love triangles and this book is evidently getting there. I’m excited to read the next book and see where the adventure leads!

my first reread of 2024
i read this book about 10 years ago when i first got into the shadowhunter world, and i can say it was just as good as i remember it!
the infernal devices was my favorite out of the books back then and based off of this book it still is remaining my favorite sub series.
it was almost like i was reading it again for the first time! (literally only remembered one part and that was who the bad guy was lolol)

My original rating was very similar to what I'd rate this now, but as I've matured I can see some flaws within this book.
Before I begin: it's very clear why middle school me was in love with this and the characters
