First of all,i have to say that i absolutely love this saga . That's why it was so hard for me to accept how it ended .. Like really? She just set off to our world and left Geralt and Yennefer in that other world and they 'lived happily ever after' ? Right. After so much building up to their great reunion (or at least that's how i was picturing it would be,one big great happy family) the ending made me really disappointed and mad.

That's why i was flabbergasted to see that after the 'lady of the lake' came 'season of storm' which contained stories with Geralt and Dandellion before the attack on Cintra.. At that point i've almost DNF'ed the whole thing and was content with the fact that the ending was sh*t. I absolutely love Geralt but knowing that he'd get stabbed by a pitchfork at the end of the road made me indifferent. I just couldn't care less about his past.

But.. I've finished it because i'm stubborn. Admittedly, I've skimmed through the whole thing without paying much attention to the descriptions of forests or the inns or pretty much anything else that wasn't the main turning point or a fight scene. And then i was absolutely amazed by the last chapter when Geralt saved Nimue and told her this :

Because darkness will always, always exist. And Evil will always rampage in the darkness, there will always be fangs and claws, killing and blood in the darkness. And witchers will always be necessary. And let’s hope they’ll always appear exactly where they’re needed. Answering the call for help. Rushing to where they are summoned. May they appear with sword in hand. A sword whose gleam will penetrate the darkness, a sword whose brightness disperses the gloom. A pretty fairy tale, isn’t it? And it ends well, as every fairy tale should.’ ‘But . . .’ she stammered. ‘But it’s a hundred years . . . How is it possible for . . . ? How is it possible—?’ ‘A future novice of Aretuza may not ask questions like that,’ he interrupted, still smiling. ‘A novice of a school where they teach that nothing is impossible. Because everything that’s impossible today may become possible tomorrow. A slogan like that should hang above the entrance to the school. Which will soon become your school. Fare you well, Nimue. Farewell. Here we part.’ ‘But . . .’ She felt sudden relief, and her words gushed forth. ‘But I’d like to know . . . Know more. About Yennefer. About Ciri. About how that story really ended. I’ve read it . . . I know the legend. I know everything. About witchers. About Kaer Morhen. I even know the names of all the witcher Signs! Please, tell me—’ ‘Here we part,’ he interrupted her gently. ‘The road to your destiny is before you. A quite different road is before me. The story goes on, the tale never ends. As far as the Signs are concerned . . . There is one you don’t know. It’s called the Somne. Look at my hand.’ She looked. ‘An illusion,’ she heard from somewhere, far away. ‘Everything is an illusion.’ .

That was the moment i've jumped from my chair because YES of course Ciri went back to Geralt and Yennefer since Geralt couldn't have travelled back in his world without her help. Time passes differently in that world also which would explain why he would ,casually, continue hunting monsters which mages created at that castle.

While it was still somehow open-ended, the beauty is in the imagination and i don't doubt it that someday we may learn what happened in detail. Until then , i'll cherish this saga and keep it close to my heart and when the day arrives i'll once more dive into the legend.

This was more like a compilation of a series of conversations held over a nice tea about the character it was based on. I want to care about the characters but just because I feel like I should have taken something from this. Instead I'm left irritated that I was reading about magic lessons for a stupid and bratty girl. Thankfully the author let me know often she was actually very smart. Now if only there was something to back that up besides her musing over her virginity.

I know there had to be some kind of nugget that leads on to an actual story but my brain was rendered numb and I can't recall anything beyond the chosen special brat is supposed to be special.

I'm sure she is.
