A realistic portrayal of grief, but also a hopeful story of finding love at any age. A really lovely book.

i loved this a lot. Magda is an insanely layered character and i loved reading her perspective and thoughts on things. The dynamic and relationship between sara and madga is beautiful and as you learn more about it it tugs at your heartstrings so much. The sentiment of loving someone you cant have is done well and layered w the fact that this is a queer woman living in a homophobic era. i resonate w madga a lot and w her relationship w sara. Loving her from a distance bc she knows she can never have the real thing, but she cant live without it. And then it gets ripped away from her. I do like the fact that by the end madga is comfortable enough to be in a relationship w another woman and her and judy have a sweet dynamic but it sorta made the whole road trip of it all feel like a plot device to meet judy rather than a journey on self acceptance and the true grieving of sara. Certains parts drag a bit but i was never bored. Its a slow burn. Its really something ive never read before and j think it’s important to have literature like this. Love love love madga.

I don’t think this book was for me. I was annoyed by Magda for the whole book. Her internal dialogue was a bit much for me, and she didn’t seem to treat anyone she cared about with kindness. I don’t ask much from my protagonists, but I need to believe they care about their people. I liked seeing Sara’s letter in the book, but I would have preferred there to be more indicators for what paragraphs were taking place in the past vs present. It was also SO sad!
