Definitely the weirdest of the series with murder, battle, and bloodshed, but I appreciated the medical examinations that Claire intervened on and Increased opportunity for other character POV.
Long book! Sometimes I wished she had left out so much detail, but then that is part of the beauty of her books. Some BIG surprises. Love the direction the story is going and can't wait to start the next book!
As with Drums of Autumn, I found it slower than the first 3 books however the build up to the end and the end was superb. I can't wait to read the next one!
Okay so the defining moment for me was when Claire, who must have done some sort of "collection," is looking at Jamie's sperm in her home made microscope.
Ahem: EEEEEEEWWWWW.
Science is fine, if you're into that sort of thing, but really? These two characters, whose love defies all time, yadda yadda yadda... and the thing that Calire does with their time is try to grow penicillin, look at sperm in a microscope, and all Jamie does is farm?
I get that she's trying to describe how difficult life is in the 18th century, but she's abandoned the classic concepts of plot and character development. Maybe half a dozen events occur in this 900+ page novel.
It's a total bummer, because the characters had such promise in the first three books.

I think this one wandered a bit to much and most of the story is just catching up with the characters. The real stories in the book would have been better compressed more tightly into each other. I'm guessing Diana Gabaldon is just trying to get to a certain date for the next book.
I think this was the best one since the first one! I really enjoyed the storylines and learning more about Roger's character.
Sticking a fork in this one at 58% read because I just have no desire to go any further. It makes me sad, really because I fell in love with Jamie and Claire, but this book just makes me want to break up with them because its not going anywhere. I need suspense and drama and excitement in my book series relationships, and I'm just not getting it anymore. I thought there was hope with the murder in the middle of the book, but then it just... fizzles out again.
::sigh::
So, Jamie and Claire... Don't call me, I'll call you. It was fun for a while, but you just aren't doing it for me anymore. Thanks for the good times.

Ok, come on. Sometimes your favorite book series can let you down. I really didn't enjoy this book. It felt like a bunch of small Outlander stories jumbled up into a super long book. 1400 pages of garble. There seemed to be little story line and there wasn't much to hold onto as far as romance. It took me a long time to get through it, but I knew I had to if I wanted to read the next book which sounds amazing. A lot of wonderful thing happen within the last 5% of the book, but that's as much as you get. I'm disappointed and sad. Very sad.

Not my favorite one of hers, but captivating enough because I am already so invested in these characters. Interested to read the next one but will probably take a break from the series for a couple of months.
If you have committed to this series, you know that the time travelers take a long time (and a whole lot o' pages) to get anything done. Seriously, the first half of this book was a lot of build up for a wedding and the start of building a militia. Author Diana Gabaldon must be convinced that absolutely everything she thinks about must be included to fill up the nearly 1000 pages. This was the draggiest of the entries by far. I may need a break before tackling the next book.
