With 600 pages left to read I decided to skim read. A sin I know but this installment in the series was just so boring to me. Nothing happened majority of the book. It's just day to day life which is fine but not for an entire Outlander book. I kept waiting for something exciting to happen and it rarely did. Oh well. Hopefully A Breath of Snow and Ashes is better.

I enjoy the Outlander series but this book is dragging on interminably.
Yet another great read in the series. So many stories and adventures, I can't help thinking as I read them just how well suited these books are for long TV series. Excited to see where books 6-8 will take me!
I know this one typically haw lower ratings than the rest of the books, but this one was so gosh darn good. There wasn’t one overarching plot, more like several side stories that were loosely connected. It didn’t have much of the time travel stuff in it (until that whopper at the end), which I was fine with. This book did a lot for one of my favorite characters, Roger. I guess the next book is where the whole story starts picking up again, so I guess it’ll be pretty great considering how much I enjoyed this one.
These books are starting to get very tedious. The first three and part of the fourth had exciting story lines, making the reader wonder what was going to happen at every turn. Ever since the crew made it to America though, things have gone downhill. And every time you think the book should be ending, Diana Gabaldon fast forwards a few more months and throws something else in. The Outlander books could easily be separated into smaller installments, which would make the reading less exhausting. And all I can think of is, three more books of this and going?

I understand from reviews that this might not be a popular opinion, but I think this is my favorite Outlander book to date. I loved the Longest Day. I almost cried multiple times while reading various scenes in here (which didn't happen in the other books). I am very happy that my reading of this one went so much more easily and more positively than expected.

It took me over ONE MONTH to read this book. ONE. ENTIRE. MONTH. That is unheard of in my nerdy little world! I don’t know if it was the change of scenery or the absolute ridiculousness of how the story ended up here, but I’m not loving this new American dream. It was slow and cumbersome and really, really far-fetched— even for romantic, time-traveling, historical fiction!
Maybe I’m not giving Gabaldon enough credit, though. I’m sure it’s a tremendous task to write thousands upon thousands of pages about a small cast of characters without an awkward transition or two. Luckily I’m a kind, compassionate, forgiving person who happens to have a slight (and growing) addiction to the overly dramatic and unrealistic Claire-Jamie relationship. What can I say? Sometimes a girl just needs a good (*cough* cheesy as hell *cough*) love story.
I’ve also already purchased the next two books in the series and once they’re on the shelf, I can’t really help myself, can I? Shelf space is obligation, people.
