This was a really interesting book and I did enjoy the subject manner. I thought the characters were, for the most part, really fleshed out, which was good. I did feel like something was missing for me though, and it's hard to tell what exactly it is, but the fact I was missing something is why I'm rating this only 4.25 stars instead of 5 stars. Still a really great book, though, and I would recommend it to others. I was able to finish it within only 2 days.

Overall a good novel which could have been even better. I liked learning about the suffragette movement and the first women allowed to be officially admitted at Oxford. I enjoyed the characters and setting, but sometimes it seemed like a tour of Oxford, with lots of extraneous details and enough plot. The narrative style (third person for each character but not deeply-focused VOP) didn't help me get to feel for Otto, Dora, Marianne, and Beatrice as much as I wanted to. I would have enjoyed more present-day scenes and dialog to develop their stories instead of so many revealing flashbacks. Also, it would have been interesting to get more glimpses of the academic side of their Oxford experience.
