I did a Very Thorough book report on this for ninth grade English. šŸ˜‚

More than anything, I just found this book to be overly dull and pretentious. The writing style just reeked of pretension. So much so that I found myself growing bored with this book rather quickly. This was my first time reading Anne Rice and now I'm not sure if I should read more of her stuff or not. If they're all like this, I'm thinking it would be better not to.

An interesting take on what it means to be immortal and forced to kill to stay sane and ā€œaliveā€.

I do think certain parts were a bit confusing, which owes to the structure of the story being written in the style of an interview in which the vampire is doing most of the talking. The writing is very dense and feels like it could’ve been a bit shorter.

However, it kept my attention because of the implications of immortality on the psyche and the representation of queer love.

I finally read this book. I don’t exactly remember what made me want to read it but I’m really happy I did. I ended up really enjoying it. I don’t need to say a whole lot about it, but I did end up watching the movie right after and I think they did a pretty good job on that one!

It was very introspective and I loved Claudia so that was all… a lot, by the end, but I loved it. A part that really stuck out was the lines about the black ocean, for some reason. I just feel like this book touched on vampires in a way I still haven’t seen in any other book since it’s publication.

Another thing that struck me was the difference in ā€œchild vampiresā€ compared to Fledgling by Octavia Butler. I read Fledgling not too long ago and while I enjoy a lot of it, it was just really very sexual regarding the vampire in the body of a little girl. This book, though it touches on it in a ā€œill never have the body of an adultā€ way, doesn’t sexualize her body in that same way. I found it pretty creepy, honestly, so I was happy it wasn’t like that.

Overall, loved it. Considering checking out some of the sequels but still a bit unsure. We shall see!!!
