I did not enjoy this at all. As a reader I feel it is my duty to read books from beginning to end.....but I couldn't read it anymore! It's been put away half read, and that's where it will remain!
It doesn't hold up well. I tried to re-read it and got annoyed with teh whiny "I am not vampire enough", "I am going to hell because I am vampire!", emo, vampire bs that the characters go through. UGH.

A good book, well written and captivating. Anne Rice's older works have a tendency to pull you in and hold on. Plus, the drama of two vampires in a pass poor marriage adopting a child to fix things is just...its all kinds of ridiculous. I'm pretty sure I've met that couple.
Fun to read, esepcially if you love ThE DrAmA.

I really loved this book, the authors writing style, the characters, all of it. However the tv show…. Now that’s my favorite telling of this interview. Just perfect. It felt like the book was the draft and the show the polished version. But this book has gained it special place in my heart. Will recommend and re-read it in the future, I’m sure of it.

This is a little bit gay, a little bit trash, and a little bit campy. I love stupid vampire stories.

so much religious trauma in Louis, so much of Anne Rice's own trauma coming through with Louis, Lestat, and Claudia...... so much despair as well, and Armand being a fucking creature at that smh
i'm actually pretty excited to read The Vampire Lestat now but wow yeah this book was uh. a lot! very bloated, very full, took me basically two weeks to finish and my head kinda hurts. i WILL say tho, the TV show adaptation of this is so fascinating because the book is quite different, but the essence of the story is still there. i did enjoy it, and yes i know it's not as explicitly queer as many of us would like, but you gotta understand: the romance is not the main focus of this book. there's so much to uncover about these characters through them being vampires alone.
anyway gonna be thinking about this for a long time.
