In some ways I really related to Louis, in how he looks at life and how it sort of slips away from him, but then I also relate to the interviewer in being frustrated with how Louis dealt with the end of his story. It’s kind of philosophical in a surprising way, and also sad!
Was mir gefallen hat:
- Vampirlore

While I love the story that I’ve seen in the movie and television series, the book is so hard to get though for its dismal and overly descriptive narrator. After trying multiple times to read the book and failing because of this, I got the audiobook. It was still not as entertaining as I hoped but the voice actor made it more tolerable to finally push through. I think the Hollywood adaptations are much better at explaining Louis’s plight overall.
That said, I will try book two because I find Lestat to be a more compelling character and hopefully a better narrator.

Have to admit, I was quite disappointed with this one. Granted, I didn't know much about this book going into it other than it concerns vampires, and is well-loved by its fans. If I had known it was primarily about someone going on a journey of self-discovery, I would have either lowered my expectations or steered clear of it altogether as I very rarely like these stories. Not likely to read this one again.

I know that this is a modern classic when it comes to vampire stories and I do understand why. However, I found it difficult to really get engrossed in, mainly due to the format of how it was written. There are not really any clear chapter distinctions, although there are different parts. Nearly the entire story is in quotation marks as Louis is speaking to the boy, but I feel like this could have been understood and just switched to Louis' voice, as I found it distracting. At first, the boy interrupts the story almost too much, then he just disappears (which makes more sense to telling a narrative anyway). Also, the plot meanders. There are really exciting and interesting moments and them long periods of exposition that drag on. Honestly, I wanted to read this for a long time, but I found it something of a slog.

Watched the show and decided to give the book a read. I just think Anne Rice's writing style is not my cup of tea, and I also think Louis really irked me throughout the story lol. I enjoyed but like... I was irritated throughout, if that makes sense.
